Metroid Prime: Hunters Strategy Guide
Hints to defeat certain strategies:
I- Introduction
A lot of people, as I have stated above, like to
think that some of the Hunters are cheap, yet in theory,
they have no idea that the strategies they use are also
considered ‘cheap’. This is a guide used to counter
those ‘cheap’ strategies, not written as a strategic
view, but in a player’s view.
Following this section, there will be 7 sections; one
for each Hunters most-used strategies that most people
consider cheap. This will most likely be used as a
reference manual for yourself in case you find yourself
in one of these situations.
II- How do I spot a ‘cheap’ player?
To tell you the truth, I go by the old saying ‘You
can’t judge a book by it’s cover.’. For example, just
because someone picks Trace on a large map doesn’t mean
he’s a camper.
But, there are always some ways to take precautions
against potential campers, Alters, etc. Here are some
combinations that you might want to look out for that
are what most people look for in a cheap player:
Camper:
Usually will pick a large map, or a map with powerful
sniping spots, and use Trace. But of course, most
people, camper or not, will pick such a map just for
sniping capabilities.
Wormer/Alter:
Usually will pick a smaller map with lots of tunnels
(Such as Data Shrine), with no/little Affinity weapons.
He will usually pick Kanden.
Runner:
Can vary in map choice, mostly large, and will pick a
character with a fast/powerful Alt, such as Trace.
Now, we will start with the Hunter Strategies.
III- Samus Aran
Samus is, of course, an all around average character.
Not many people complain about her, but if someone does,
it’s about people abusing her Homing Missiles. (Her
affinity weapon.) Here are some ways to prevent getting
massacred by Homing Missiles:
Master the art of jumping.
Samus’s missiles have their limits to how much they
will home in on you, so practice going up against a
computer and jump. This does take some good timing,
though. Move around a lot, also. Try strafing from the
left to right constantly.
Stay near walls/barricades/pilars.
If you are by a pillar/wall/barricade, try averting
the missile to run into it.
Alt mode is asking for it.
A lot of people try to escape the homing missiles by
jumping into Alt mode quickly, but this will not help
you at all. By the time your character is finished with
it’s animation of transforming into the Alt, and your
reaction time, the missile will already be right in your
face.
IV- Sylux
A lot of people complain about Sylux’s ‘all-powerful’
Shock-Coil. It absorbs your health, making you stronger,
and your opponent weaker. It also has an almost ‘homing’
effect to it. Here are ways to avoid it:
Stay in Alt mode with a SC abuser.
Sylux used to be my main Hunter; and I used SC a lot.
But, I found it so hard to get my Shock Coil locked into
a person in Alt mode. It is especially hard with a
person in a Ball shaped Alt, for some reason. Try moving
around a lot in your Alt; this makes it twice as hard.
Shock Coil him back.
Another annoying thing I found while trying to SC
someone is when they SC me back. It makes the absorbing
process almost useless.
V- Weavel
Without a question, everyone complains about Weavel’s
Half Turret. Surprisingly, these are some of the most
easiest and best ways to get rid of it.
Shock Coil is your friend.
By far the most easiest and effective way to get rid
of a Half Turret is with Shock Coil. It drains what
little energy the Half Turret/Weavel’s other half has
left from it being drained by splitting, and if you are
using Sylux, you also gain health at the same time. Most
people will come out of their Alt once you destroy the
Half-Turret.
Hide, fool!
Half Turrets may be useful, but what many Weavel
user’s can’t seem to understand are two things:
Placement and accuracy.
Placement:
Unless your playing a pro, most Weavel users are not
to strategic about where they place their Half Turrets.
This will help you with
Accuracy:
Half Turrets are also not very accurate. Hiding
behind a small rock will even give you the upper edge
against one.
VI- Kanden
Of course, one of the most notoriously complained
about things in MP:H is Worming.
The Imperialist Irradiators.
If you are being Wormed, try picking up an
Imperialist. 1-2 shots will fix your problem.
Stay away from ledges.
Kanden’s Alt attack can go off edges, giving him the
element of surprise. Try keeping either with your back
to a wall, or in a wide-open area.
Get to higher ground.
A great way to evade the Alt attack is to get to a
higher platform. Kanden’s Alt won’t jump, so if he wants
to attack you again, he is forced to get out of his Alt
and into BiPed mode, giving you an open shot.
VII- Spire
I have not seen that much complaining about Spire
until people starting using arenas like Alinos Gateway
with combinations like a Spire Sniper. Since Spire has
immunity to lava, it gives him an edge in areas like
these. He can also climb walls, which is complained
about. Here are some ways to counter this:
If you are Trace, stay away from his Alt.
Using Trace’s Alt in an area like Alinos Gateway with
a Spire Sniper is trouble. Since Trace’s Alt moves so
fast, and has so little friction, it is like throwing
yourself into the lava, only to weaken yourself for a
kill.
Stay in an open area.
Make sure there are no walls around; this is of
course, obvious and self-explanatory.
Stay away, you monster!
Since a Spire user will trounce around the field
without any problems in a map like Alinos Gateway, just
don’t go after him; stay in one spot. I know this is
considered camping, but sometimes you have to fight fire
with fire. It’s not worth the risk chasing after him,
and hurting yourself in lava in the process.
VIII- Trace
Well, let’s just say A LOT of people complain about
Trace for various reasons; cloaking, camping, Alting,
the list goes on. But, most of Trace’s ‘cheap’ methods
are just a repeat of what I have just taught you.
Go to lava areas with a Trace Alter.
As I said above, using Trace’s Alt with lava is
deadly, so try and lead him to such an area. This also
works in areas like Headshot where your enemy can fall
off the map.
Stay close to walls and barriers.
Never leave yourself wide open for a shot with a
camper/sniper. Always be moving, jumping, hiding.
USE THE DARN RADAR!!!
I get sick and tired of people complaining that Trace
gets to be invisible, but truly, this gives him no edge
at all except to a bad player. Use the radar! He will
still show up, silly!
Don’t go after him; let him come to you.
I’m a sniper myself, and I’ve seen that some of my
easiest kills come from people who go after me. Instead,
wait in a spot for him to come to you. In close range,
it is much harder to get a OHKO from the Imperialist.
Learn where he hides.
Take some time to go into a Bot Battle and learn the
best sniping spots yourself. This way, you will always
know where they will hide.
IX- Noxus
Almost nobody complains about Nouxs, except for two
small things; his freezing ability and his ‘pinball’
effect with his Alt form.
Stay away from a ‘fall-out’ area.
Stay away from areas where you can fall off. This
way, it will be harder for him to knock you off stage
using his Alt.
Stay at a good distance; don’t try to Alt a freezer.
Hope this short guide helps.
