Warhawk Ownage Strategy Guide
I made this guide because a lot of people said,
that they had trouble doing great in this game often
ending up with negative Kill Death/Ratios (which
obviously is embarrassing - honestly), also just for pure
advices and hints to the already experienced fighter
that just wanna do better
I'm separating the guide into a series of categories,
describing each and every aspect of flying the
Warhawk/Nemesis (I'll call it just Warhawk throughout as
the Nemesis is exactly the same as the Warhawk, just a
different model) - we'll talk about general maneuvering,
scouting, defending, attacking, evading and so forth.
This guide will obviously not make you a champ
instantly, what this'll do is to provide you with tools
and ideas on how to become better (ultimately obviously,
this takes practice, especially if you're not a natural
born gamer, which I am (no bragging intended)), it'll
probably also give you an idea of how to approach other
players using this tactic (cya online).
General flying
You hop in your Warhawk and what now? Go ahead and blast
them fools? Sorry but that's entirely incorrect, before
doing ANYTHING you need to be prepared, that is KEY to
winning any dogfight, being prepared. Before even
participating in any dogfights I suggest that you fly
around the map and find out where the items are located,
the very most important items that you'll need are as
follows: Decoys, Health, Homing Missiles, Stealth
(cloaking) and Swarm missiles. I'll later explain on why
these is PARTICULARLY needed and in what situation these
are needed (and they are needed often - VERY big part of
succeeding in this game). Now that you've gotten a hang
of the items located on the map you need to learn on how
to maneuvering the map.
Maneuvering the map
There's pretty much just 1 thing that really matters,
STAY ABOVE THE CLOUDS!!!. You'll need to fly to a height
where the stalling message starts appearing, you'll
notice that you can actually still be stable while this
message appears but you can't go much higher when that
message appears, I personally recommend going just
until the message wears off again, because the constant
beeping sound can get annoying and removing your focus
on the game. Now why are we doing this? I can't ****ing
see anyone on the ground thus not being able to kill
anyone? Well bingo you don't have to, when you're all up
in the skies you'll only be able to see the enemy and
friendly Warhawks and occasionally ground troops, also if
you haven't caught this yet, the enemy will NOT be able
to spot you unless the fly upwards towards you,
rendering you sort of invisible for now

Attacking (Let the hunt begin)
Now that you're up in the skies you might wonder when
we'll get to the part where you actually start having
fun and killing people, well all I can say is patience,
because the waiting is not over just yet. The biggest
factor in defeating and enemy Warhawk without getting
pursued by another or getting attacked by potential
turrets and so on is SPEED!, extended battles are BANNED
from now on, this is ultimately what will get you
killed. Speed is everything, now that you're flying
above the clouds pick out your targets (and I mean pick
YOUR target), and I mean it, choose your battles
wisely, if it's not already obvious I'll describe a few
scenarios beneath, you can skip those if you already
know what I'm talking about.
Scenario 1:
2 or more enemy Warhawks are battling one of your
teammates (also sitting in a Warhawk) this battle takes
place directly above enemy territory and turrets are a
potential hazard.
THIS IS NOT A GOOD BATTLE TO PARTICIPATE - ODDS ARE
AGAINST YOU
Scenario 2:
3 or more Warhawks are attacking your base and putting
fire on ground targets, you really feel like going in
taking away their attention towards you.
THIS IS NOT A GOOD BATTLE TO PARTICIPATE - ODDS ARE
AGAINST YOU
Risks are that those will bring the pursuit to you and
ultimately kill you.
Scenario 3:
1 Lonely Warhawk is flying around the map with no
particular bases around him, changes are that he's
looking for a fight.
THIS IS A BATTLE THAT YOU PARTICIPATE IN - ODDS ARE
THAT YOU'LL ULTIMATELY BE ABLE TO BRING HIM DOWN.
Scenario 4:
2 Warhawks are flying/hovering across the map, they're
scattered but aware of each other.
THIS IS A BATTLE THAT YOU PARTICIPATE IN - ODDS ARE
THAT YOU'LL ULTIMATELY BE ABLE TO BRING HIM (Or them
depending if you're ambitious enough) DOWN.
Now that you've found a particular target/targets here's
what's going to happened, you approach them from the
skies, you'll now equip the homing missiles, lock 1
missile onto the target and fire it away as soon as it's
ready, simultaneously with doing this switch over to
swarm missiles, lock onto him with 2 rockets or more
depending on how much time you got and if he's flying
around like an idiot making it hard for you (there's a
lot of those) unleash hell to him and start firing your
machinegun, you'll most likely have killed him within
the time span of 5-10 seconds depending on how good you
are at aiming the swarm missiles and the machinegun. If
the guy DOES not go down and happened to escape your
deadly payload withdraw from the battle, again extended
battles are BANNED. Also I wouldn't advice taking down
more than 1 Warhawk in each raid as this could
potentially create and unwanted situation for you
example: the guy manages to dodge you and get behind you
creating a dangerous situation for you. After a
successful kill or two (depending on your level of
arrogance) withdraw beyond the skies once again,
optionally go pick up some more items and ammunition if
you used too much.
Attacking extended (ground forces)
One thing that Warhawks are not good at, is taking how
ground forces, why? Speed, going down to the level where
you can actually fire your missiles and machineguns at
ground forces takes way too long and heavily expose you
to rocket launchers and stationary turrets. What you can
do to destroy ground forces is to use the Cluster bomb
(takes A LOT of practice to get it right) or use the TOW
missile (basically the BFG of Warhawk), the TOW missile
is your primary weapon against ground forces, and while
this weapon is scarce (there's at least 1 on every map
though) it's ultimately the best. Now how do you use the
TOW missile? Well you could just fire it at the target
once you spot it right? Well no, safety is one of your
biggest concerns as you don't want to get killed, hiding
behind some cliff or underneath a bridge is not good
enough, you'll be easy targets for enemy Warhawks, what
you'll do is to go up in the skies until the stalling
message appears, immediately hit triangle (hovering
mode) from up here you're pretty safe, fire the missile
and kill your target (using R2 to speed up the process
is sometimes vital if you're shooting at turrets and
whatnot).
Defending and dodging the deadly missiles
In Warhawk there's not a whole lot you can do to
'defend' yourself against incoming missiles, these are
all homing in on you, and it doesn't take much to bring
you down, in best case it takes 6 swarming missiles to
bring you down, in worst case it takes 1 TOW to bring
you down but this is unlikely to happened, otherwise it
takes 2 missiles from the turrets (they actually fire 2
at once but you can be lucky to dodge one of them) and 2
missiles from homing missiles. Now what can you do about
it? I mean you exposed in the sky and all that, there's
not a whole lot of places to go? Well all I can say is
that pressing RIGHT ON THE D-PAD, AND 0,1 SECONDS
AFTERWARDS PRESSING L1 have to become your second
nature, doing this will launch the decoys and ultimately
not make you take any damage from the missiles, this is
also the reason why it's so **** important to keep
refilling your decoys, they're your only defense against
missiles homing in on you. Also speed and maneuvering is
VERY important in this case.
I'll explain EXACTLY what happens when I'm getting
hunted down by another Warhawk.
The hunt begins:
Warhawk chases me, warning comes up (missiles locked on
you).
You launch a decoy giving you a short breath of air.
Immediately press the right analog stick upwards for 0,5
seconds to perform a 90 degree maneuver upwards towards
the skies, hit R2 twice to launch your boosters, while
doing this press LEFT/DOWN on your D-PAD to equip the
Stealth ability and press L1 to activate it, keep flying
upwards in a straight line, and you can ultimately just
do some turns while you're in the air and you'll be free
from your pursuer.
If this maneuver is done to perfection you'll live every
time, it's a guarantee, also if you was hit by maybe
swarm missiles and machinegun fire and have lost some
health you'll obviously have to go down and pick those
up, AND DECOYS while you at it - but make it quick the
last thing you want is to have the guy trying to kill
you again.
fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.
Conclusion
This is obviously just MY way of deciphering this game,
if you find any kind of methods or fine tuning of my
strategy that works better for you all the better.
Also if anyone have any questions I'll gladly answer
them.
